Common mistakes
When filling out the Australian Passport Renewal form, people often make several common mistakes that can lead to delays or complications. One significant error is not ensuring that their passport meets the eligibility criteria. To renew a passport, it must have been issued after July 1, 2000, and must have been valid for at least two years when issued. If the passport does not meet these requirements, the renewal process cannot proceed.
Another mistake involves the photographs submitted with the application. The requirements for passport photos are strict. Many applicants fail to provide photos that adhere to the specifications, such as size, background color, and facial visibility. For instance, photos must be taken with a plain, light-colored background and show the applicant's face clearly without any obstructions. If the photos do not meet these criteria, the application may be rejected.
In addition, applicants often overlook the importance of providing the correct payment method. The form specifies that acceptable payment methods include EFTPOS, Mastercard, Visa, or cash. Some individuals mistakenly send cheques, which are not accepted. This oversight can lead to processing delays or the need to restart the application process.
Lastly, many people forget to make an appointment when required. While some applicants can submit their forms by mail, others must lodge their applications in person at a Passport Office or Australia Post outlet. Failing to book an appointment can result in wasted time and the need to reschedule, further delaying the renewal process.
